A truly definitive and intelligent article by the always objective Eric Pincus on a subject that has been a main topic of discussion on the blog. Eric does his usual expert job delineating all of the issues and concerns we’ve been talking about when trying to answer the questions of whether the league is making the right decision, what the chances are of it succeeding, and what does it say about the prospects of NBA basketball or any professional sports next season. Truly a must read for all Lakerholics.
I remain hopeful that the NBA can pull this off, probably more hopeful that I am that there will be a next season. The key to me is the bubble, although I do think the league needs to do something about the Disney employees, maybe even considering including them in the bubble to maintain safety. Would cost a lot but the profits from resuming this season could save the league in the long run if conditions force a cancellation or dramatic shortening of next season.
Bottom line, we’re clearly in uncharted territory with Donald Trump at the helm of the Enterprise instead of James Kirk. God knows what we will find as we move forward. We’re in for some bumpy rides for sure and it would be a small blessing in this universe of chaos if the NBA can pull this off. Looking forward to watching LeBron, AD, and the Lakers getting that chance to win their 17th NBA championship, asterisk and all.
